Domenica Diavoleria – Orange Clearing

Anxious Magazine Domenica Diavoleria – Orange Clearing

Orange Clearing is Domenica Diavoleria’s second full-length album after Forever Your Salesgirl. While the latter album concerned reckoning with haunted retail spaces, Orange Clearing dips further into Diavoleria’s personal cosmologies concerning: possibly dreamt orange-dappled paths and early 20th-century orations on Seattle fairgrounds.
It is about imagining a Seattle where the old growth Fun Forest has taken over the city, with invocations of whirligigs and dappled visions of sunken playlands, Orange Clearing is also a playful “children’s album”: written and mixed while the artist was pregnant, Orange Clearing intentionally invokes a sense of primary colors and play.
It is also deeply about the city of Seattle, the stomping ground of Domenica’s youth and adulthood. Thus it is also about fun that was had in her beloved city.

Orange Clearing is about unearthing the long-gone amusements of the past that still ripple in the airwaves. It is heavy on sentiment and the winking acknowledgement of the very Purple Prose of the endeavor. The music combines cello, modular synthesizers, samples and profoundly manipulated sounds to achieve its ornate and otherworldly feeling.
