Hilal Can traktuje sztukę jako narzędzie pozwalające zaspokajać różne potrzeby ekspresji poprzez łączenie różnych dyscyplin i praktyk. Jej twórczość artystyczna jest kształtowana przez osobiste doświadczenia życiowe i wewnętrzne podróże, koncentrując się na poszukiwaniu tożsamości przez jednostkę, procesach wewnętrznej transformacji oraz jej relacjach z dynamiką społeczną. Czerpiąc inspirację z wewnętrznych konfliktów pojawiających się podczas współczesnych poszukiwań tożsamości, jej prace mają na celu reinterpretację pamięci osobistej i zbiorowej, a jednocześnie kwestionują sposoby, w jakie konstruujemy znaczenie poprzez mity i symbole.
Zajmuje się głównie malarstwem, ale eksperymentuje również z rysunkiem, ceramiką, kolażem, instalacją, fotografią analogową, muralami i pisarstwem. Od 2020 roku rozszerzyła swoją działalność o muzykę eksperymentalną i performanse dźwiękowe.
Jej performance z wykorzystaniem rzutnika Cyclop Visuals łączy ekspresję wizualną i dźwiękową, koncentrując się na improwizacji i estetyce chwili.
Hilal Can uczestniczyła w programach rezydencji artystycznych we Francji i Hiszpanii, a także wystawiała swoje prace i występowała w Berlinie, Kopenhadze, Marsylii, Nowym Jorku, Londynie, Mediolanie i Stambule. Jej najnowsza wystawa, Günebakanlar (Sunseekers), była instalacją site-specific poświęconą tematyce widoczności osób queer, prezentowaną w Goethe-Institut Galeri Vitrin w Ankarze. W 2025 roku wzięła udział w programie rezydencji artystycznej w Cité des Arts w Paryżu.

Hilal Can approaches art as a tool to respond to various needs of expression by bringing together different disciplines and practices. Her artistic practice is shaped by personal life experiences and inner journeys, focusing on the individual’s search for identity, processes of inner transformation, and her relationship with social dynamics. Drawing inspiration from the internal conflicts encountered in modern identity quests, her work aims to reinterpret personal and collective memory, while also questioning the ways we construct meaning through myths and symbols.
Primarily working in painting, she also explores drawing, ceramics, collage, installation, analog photography, mural work, and writing. Since 2020, she has expanded her practice into experimental music and sound performances.
Her live overhead projector performance Cyclop Visuals combines visual and sonic expression, centering improvisation and the aesthetics of the moment.
Hilal Can has participated in artist-in-residence programs in France and Spain, and has exhibited and performed in Berlin, Copenhagen, Marseille, New York, London, Milan, and Istanbul. Her most recent exhibition, “Günebakanlar” (Sunseekers), was a site-specific installation shaped around the theme of queer visibility, was shown at the Goethe-Institut Galeri Vitrin in Ankara. In 2025, she took part in the studio residency program at Cité des Arts in Paris.
She continues her practises in Istanbul.
